The purpose of the internships offered by The Ohio State University Equine Program is to provide students the opportunity to enhance their formal education with valuable hands-on experience. It should be noted that these internships are traditional internships in that they involve performing repetitive entry level tasks. For example, an intern at a veterinary clinic will provide basic care for the animals and facilities (feeding and watering the animals, cleaning cages and examination rooms). Learning experiences are included in the internships, but they are not the main focus. Routine care of the animals and facilities comes first, so everyone is expected to pitch in and do whatever work is needed around the farm. If a special event is going on such as a state 4-H contest or clinic, you may be asked to help with that, too!
Stable Management Internship (Fall or Summer Quarter)
In addition to basic horse care, students are involved in administering proper immunizations, de-worming, and assisting veterinarians and the farrier when needed.

Behavior & Training Internship (Winter/Spring Quarters)
The Behavior & Training Internship focuses on the preparation of horses to be sold at the annual Buckeye Bonanza Horse & Tack Sale. Interns work with the faculty and staff to creating individual training programs for the sale horses and are responsible for handling, grooming, and conditioning their assigned horses. In addition, they assist students currently enrolled in Anim Sci 271.02 as needed.
